PVD Stainless Steel for Hotel Interiors: What to Specify

How PVD coloured stainless steel behaves on hotel projects — base finishes, colour control, wear and what to confirm before signing off.

Why hospitality keeps choosing PVD

PVD (physical vapour deposition) bonds a metallic nitride layer onto stainless steel, producing gold, champagne, rose gold, black and bronze tones that survive contact far better than plating or painted colour. For hotel interiors — screens, wall panels, trim packages and lift surrounds — it delivers the warm metallic language designers want with a surface that still looks right after years of public use.

The base finish decides the final look

PVD follows the surface it covers. A hairline base gives warm colour with a practical, directional grain; a mirror base gives depth and reflection; a vibration base adds texture. Specify the combination, not just the colour — 'PVD gold on hairline' and 'PVD gold on mirror' are different surfaces and different prices.

Colour control is a process, not a promise

PVD colour varies slightly between coating batches. On a large project this matters: panels installed side by side must come from controlled batches. The practical controls are sample approval before production, batch booking across the run, and consistency checks as panels are finished. Ask your fabricator how they book batches — the answer tells you whether a 200-panel lobby will match.

What to confirm before signing off

Request a physical sample of the exact colour on the exact base finish. Confirm the anti-fingerprint coating where guests touch the surface. Agree the care instructions — PVD resists wear but not abrasive cleaning. And confirm who carries batch consistency across the whole package, because that is where colour problems actually start.
