Hairline vs Mirror vs Vibration: Choosing the Right Stainless Finish
Three stainless finishes, three very different surfaces. How to choose by location, touch and lighting — with sample discipline.
Hairline: the working default
A fine directional grain that hides handling and cleans easily. It is the practical choice for anything guests touch — handrails, door push areas, screens in circulation. With anti-fingerprint coating it stays presentable in high-traffic areas. Under PVD it produces warm colour with a soft grain.
Mirror: the deliberate statement
Full polish reads as jewellery and demands conditions to match: controlled contact, careful cleaning, and lighting design that accounts for reflection. On large fields it needs flatness control and, where seamless, welded and re-polished joints. In the right place — a lobby feature, a sculpture, a ceiling that carries the lighting concept — nothing else looks like it.
Vibration: the character option
A fine circular sweep that diffuses reflection instead of focusing it. The surface reads textured and calm even under strong lighting, which makes it useful for bar fronts, ceiling bands and feature zones where plain brushing would look flat and mirror would glare.
Choose by location and touch, then sample
The reliable method: walk the space, mark what guests touch, and specify hairline (or AFP-coated hairline) there; use mirror only where lighting and distance protect it; use vibration where the surface should feel textured and quiet. Then approve physical samples of each finish in the actual environment — sample discipline is what makes the install look like the render.
